Question:
I take 2 75mg of Effexor daily they are a capsule time release.
Are you able to take time release capsules after the WLS? I have had very good results from this medication and don't want to change if I don't absolutely have too. I also take Vioxx for Arthritis which I've had since the age of three (I'm 40) how does this medication effect the new stomach? — Dana W. (posted on February 27, 2003)

I believe Vioxx needs to be taken with food. And also .. Effexor XR 75mg
is a extended release capsule which is meant to be taken in capsule form so
to dispense in your system over a period of time and not all at once.
Check with your Dr and RPh to be sure. Good luck.

Just have your doc change it to regular and take it one in the am and one
in the PM. Most surgeons say no to Vioxx. I take it anyway. I will
probably be sorry, but it takes the edge off the pain and enable me to have
a normal life.
Tylenal is rough on the liver and I have more potential liver problems than
stomach problems.

Hi Dana,
I am on 450mg of Effexor XR and have been for several years. Believe me,
I know immediately when I don't get my meds. I am almost 4mos post-op and
have had no problems and needed no adjustments. Like you, I would not
change my Effexor for anything. Been there, done that and it was not
pretty.
God Bless

I don't know about the Effexor, except to say that we were told no more
time release medications-it passes thru our system too quickly. As for
Vioxx, I have taken one 25 mg tablet once a day since about 4 months
post-op (now at 1 year) and fortunately no problems. I always make sure to
have a full tummy when I take the pill. Although Vioxx was one of the
drugs discouraged after WLS as it can cause stomach ulcers. My back
pain/lower back arthritis is markedly improved on it and very uncomfortable
without so I take the risk.
