Question:
Can an Open RNY be revised with a lap. RNY
I had an open RNY gastric bypass in 1995 and was very successful until about a year ago. I've started gaining back the weight I've lost. I've only gained back about 50 lb's (having lost 150) and don't want to gain any more! My BMI is 39.2. I want to have a revision but do now want to use the same dr. I used before. I also would like to have the outpatient laparscopy done as the revision. Can anyone tell me if this is possible and who in the Dallas area would do it? Thanks — Mary B. (posted on January 23, 2003)

You might try my surgeon. He did mine Open, but he does advanced lap
surgery. His name is Dr. Glen Ihde, and his number is 972-230-2517

I don't think they do RNY as outpatient procedure. You do have shorter
hospital stay, but not outpatient.

Once you have an abdominal surgery that was as involved as an open rny my
understanding is that you cannot have a lap because of all the build up of
scar tissue.. This would make it very difficult to do a
laporoscopy....Diane

The RNY is the same procedure whether it is done open or lap. An RNY is an
RNY, the only difference is the amount of intestine bypassed. You can be
revised by having more cm's bypassed in the intestine.
