How do you tolerate and take your meds after surgery?

Since 7 days post op I have taken 2 prescriptions as normal.
I also take 1 1000mg of B12 daily and 2 Flintstones and 2 calcium pills
that I chew. Good luck.

Hi there, Audrey! I take an anti-depressant, 2 anti-anxiety, a
hypertension 2 chewable vitamins, 1 iron and the occasional tylenol PM or
reg tylenol and have had no trouble what so ever with any of these. I was
worried about taking benedryl, but I called my surgeon and he said it was
fine, no problems. I also had a cold a few weeks back and took Robitussin
and sugar free robitussin cough drops, again no trouble at all. The only
thing that is chewable are my vitamins, that's it. If you have any doubts,
always remember to ask your surgeon or even dietician, I had no clue that
there was SF cough drops. Vi

Oh yes, I forgot to add that I take 3 Tums, PER doctor and dietician's
order and those are chewable as well. Vi

I crushed my meds for a couple of weeks (per my doctor's orders, make sure
yours are ok to crush). It was nasty, even in applesauce, but I got them
down. After that I broke them in half if they were big and took them all
with my SF carnation instant breakfast (taking them with water was hard on
my tummy). I did this for about 3 months, now I am fine taking them with
water and not breaking them (6 months out). I take meds for hypothyroid,
depression, anxiety, and allergies, and bc pills so I have LOTS to get
down.

I chew a bite of food & put the pill(s) in the chewed bit & down it
goes. Same way I've done it all my life. Being wrapped in saliva makes it
dissolve very quickly. I never feel or taste them.

The first week after surgery I took my prescription Prozac in a liquid
form, my vitamins in chewable form, and my calcium citrate dissolved in
liquid. By week 2, I was taking Prozac as a capsule. I broke the calcium
citrate tablets into pieces and swallowed them, and continued taking
chewable vitamins. By two months, I could swallow everything (although I
continue to chew vitamins because I like the sugar free Flintstones!) Only
problem I ever had was that the pills would tend to fill me up if I tried
to take them all at once. So I just spread them out throughout the day.
No problem.
