Question:
A question about TCBY frozen yogurt.....

I am just over 3 weeks post op (rny) and my hubby brought home some TCBY frozen yogurt (lemon merangue) tonight. I only ate a bite fearing the consequences. I have never purchased anything from TCBY so my question is- is all frozen yogurt okay for us, hence no dumping? I'm thinking no because though we eat yogurt, we still have to make sure it is low in sugar. And how about the sugar-free Eskimo Pies. I know I could only eat like three bites, but thats better than nothing. Its odd, I never had a sweet tooth before surgery (I am a carbs addict), but I have been wanting something. I don't care for the suger-free popsicles. HELP! I really want something good every once in a while. Thanks for your responses!    — karmiausnic (posted on October 12, 2002)

Hello...I can't answer your question, but when I started having a sweet tooth for ice cream I found sugar free klondike bars. They are absolutely incredible. They taste just like the regular ones. You can also buy the ones on a stick made by klondike with dark chocolate and crispies over vanilla ice cream.....mmmmm makes me wish I hadn't ate that last one a couple days ago. Good Luck!!

Are you talking about the no sugar added frozen yogurt or the regular frozen yogurt?? Big difference. The regular frozen yogurt has 20g of sugar in 1/2 cup - which will cause most dump-sensitive people to dump. The no-sugar-added variety has about 7g of sugar in it (mostly from the lactose).

I do fine with the no sugar added no fat TCBY frozen yogurt. I would not suggest the regular frozen yogurt, it has too much fat AND sugar in it for us. Also, the coconut flavor of the TCBY is gross, so skip that one (and I love coconut!!):-)

Do you have a Meijers near you? They carry a brand of Splenda-sweetened ice cream called Velvet....it is delectable! Comes in Double Chocolate, Cherry Cordial, Butter Pecan Cashew, Caramel Toffee Crunch, and Vanilla.....it is by far the best tasting ice cream around. 95% of the other sugar-free ice creams taste like sugar-free, but not this one. As for the TCBY stuff, their no-added sugar frozen yogurt is good. The strawberry and boysenberry is great. They also have sugar-free hot-fudge and sugar-free mini chocolate chips, though I haven't tasted these yet.

Be careful that you eat a "no-sugar" kind. I was a TCBY freak before surgery, but after realized that although low in fat, it had way too much sugar.

My doctor is very liberal with regard to my diet. The fact is... a couple bites of ANYTHING you crave is not going to blow your weight loss. It's far better to satisfy those occasional cravings and get them behind you, than to waste time obsessing on them. Of course, if you are prone to dumping from sweets - you need to abstain, or figure out just what you can tolerate. Having had WLS doesn't mean you can't enjoy life.
