Question:
9 days post op and CRAVE dill pickles.

So far I've only opened the jar and smelled them....but I really want to crunch on a dill pickle. I'm already eating solid foods, do you think it would be Ok for me to eat a pickle? Or at least take a couple of bites? Thanks! :-)    — Angie M. (posted on October 5, 2002)

I did the same thing and I ate them and did just fine, check with your drs/surgeons office and if its ok with them for you to eat it, then by all means crunch away...

OMG that is so funny I am 16 days post op and that is what I want so bad too. I am not aloud anything like that for 6 weeks and am going crazy. I actually thought about taking a sip of the pickle juice. I just think that is so funny. My friend who had this about 6mths ago she eats pickles a lot. Good Luck!!!!

The longer that you wait before the more chance your stomach has to heal and the quicker and eaiser your recovery is. If you must Just remember eraser size bites,,, chew 30 times,,, and wait 1 minute between bites. Good Lux

Odd I craved pickles too. Pencil erasr sized bits chewed to death equals puree. Just give it a try once. If you tolerate it then your good to go. Just remember to concentrate on your protein.

Me too!!! I am two weeks post-op and crave pickles a lot. Last night I tried them for the first time. I bought the hamburger slices and cut out the seeds (I was told we can't tolerate seeds right now). I had no problems. I think it's a lack of salt in my diet or something.

SURE! :) For me it's been tomatoes for the last 17 months. How good it is to crave healthy foods.

I know that everyone will think I am crazy but I love dill pickles with peanut butter on them. It is a salty sweet thing. If you can tolerate both separately then try together if you think it wont bother you, but of course wait a while if this appeals to you. I never thought I would like it either but it is a way to get some protein in while satisfying your craving for salty crunchy things as well.

Angie, This may sound a bit odd, but when I had the same exact urge as you (craving pickes soooo badly) I would suck on one! When the juice was gone, I'd chew the middle part (not the hard skinned outside) and spit it out. It worked for me as far as getting that salt satisfaction. Good luck :) ~RNY 6/6/02-- down 87 lbs.)

hi there! i too went through that dill pickle thing and also tomatoes too. i thought i was alon but my cousin had the same surgery 1 month after me and she went through the exact same cravings at the exact same post op time that i had. i listened to my body so i started by just sucking the dill LOL but i finally took a small bite waited to see how id react and i just chewed the heck out of it and it went down well so i ate them. when i went through the tomato craving i tried a cherry tomato with some papa dash lite salt and it was really good! also i went through this green olive craving but tried to watch it because of the fat. best of luck to you and your not alone.

When I had that pickle craving I took all my medicine cups that the hospital gave me and filled them with pickle juice and froze them, then I sucked on them to satisify my craving. I'd sprinkle on a little salt and they are "Nummy".
