Question:
What kinds of cereals are people having?

Hi I was wondering if there are any types of cereals that people are handling especially well or are having trouble with?    — Carolyn K. (posted on September 17, 2002)

I eat all kinds. I like Total because it has everything I need and I can skip one vitamin that way. I like Tasty-O's, unsweetend rice crispie cereal, unsweetened puff wheat, oatmeal...just about any kind of cereal...I just read the labels for sugar grams...I love to put fruit preserves in oatmeal, and grape nuts in yogurt...both are very yummy, and get the sweet tooth taken care of without too much sugar...plus I can put my Procel (www.globalhp.com) in it and get more protein...it's moist enough to go down well...

I like the Kasha Go-Lean Crunch. It is high in fiber and protein and tastes really good. I add soy protein powder to the milk giving it even more protein.

I eat Cheerios. I can tolerate Rice Krispies good and the Kolean (misspelled) Crunch is good and has alot of protein and fiber in it. Kolean Crunch tastes like cracker jacks.

I have never liked cereal with milk on it, I know strange. I eat Malt O Meal ( 3 T dry ) made with water and I add a scoop of Soy Protein Powder ( to up the protein grams ) them I sprinkle one packet of splenda on this. This stays with me all morning.

I have tried many, to name a few, Fruity Pebbles, Golden Crisp, Cookie Crisp, Honeycomb, Cheerios, and none of them have bothered me at all. Now I did eat POPS one day and they made me really sick so I haven't tried them again. So basicly it's trial and error, live and learn. Good Luck!

I've had Special K, Wheaties and Soy O's. I am lactose-intolerant, so I usually eat the cereal dry. I do better in tolerating yogurt, so I might try the cereal in the yogurt bit...JR (open RNY 07/17 -78 lbs)

I LOVE special K with milk or cottage cheese or ricotta cheese. I also like Life cereal and honeycomb. I have to really watch the sugar tho cuz for some reason a higher sugar cereal with milk will make me dump even tho I can eat a pack of M&Ms with no problems.

I really like Post Shredded Wheat 'N Bran with a little bit of Equal. It has only 1gram of sugar per serving and 7 grams of protein! Even though the serving they base that on is a lot more than I can handle, I like the low sugar content and the fiber seems to keep things moving (if you know what I mean). Sorry to be graphic, but it really does seem to help.

Lynda, Don't those kid cereals have a ton of sugar?? I won't buy then for my kids because it seemed like a lot of sugar....I try to help them make better choices than I have. I'm not trying to disrespect you, I honestly never have looked at the boxes...I just figured that they were loaded and gave the kids the Cheerois/Chex kind of choices.

Special K with half of a banana and a packet of splenda, yum, or grape nut flakes. I prefer the no to low sugar items. The ones listed below are way too high in sugar and I cannot tolerate very well. Even if I do ok with them, I don't care for the taste of all the sugar.

Oh, and Spec K has 7 gr. protein for a cup. I can now eat a cup at 10 mo. post-op, so decent amount of protein.

Special K is the best! I eat it dry and think its very tasty. I am over 3 months post and I can almost eat 1 cup. Good protein and vitamins!
