Question:
How quickly will I be able to return to work?
Assuming everything goes relatively as expected, how many days will I have to stay home after being released. I'm a programmer and sit at a desk all day. I could work from home but it is slightly discouraged. I just don't have much time to take off work and am concerned. Regardless, I'm going to do it anyway. - DJ, AMDG — Daniel J. I had an open RNY and returned to teaching elementary students after 3
weeks. I did have to be careful of lifting and was nervous about kids
hugging me, but all went fine. I did work only 4 days the first 2 weeks I
returned. I felt good, but was ready for bed at night! No trouble
sleeping at all!

I took off 4 weeks, could have returned after two. My primary complaint
the last two weeks was fatigue. If you are experiencing the same thing,
you may want to work from home those two weeks. Or at least one.

I returned to a full-time office position 8 days post-op lap RNY and had no
problems at all other than a little abdominal tenderness. Good luck!

Hi - I too work with computers all day long - Software support tech....well
assuming your having the Lap RNY plan on about a week - 1 1/2 weeks off...
I took off on Wed & had I NOT had the drain tubes I would have only
been off for 3 days, but the tubes hurt when you walk after the surgery and
that's what will keep you out not the surgery itself.

I had open RNY November 29, 2001 and was released to return to work 12 days
post-op. I actually had to wait until I was 17 days post-op because I had
my surgery away from my home town and couldn't get back home til the
weekend. But I was perfectly able to return on day 12. I have a desk job,
too and I returned full time.
Good luck to you.
