Question:
I am 10 weeks post-op and loving sweet tea. Is that ok?

I am 10 weeks post op and all I want to drink is my sweet tea. Of course I make it with Splenda but my doctor only recomends drinking 2 glasses per day but that is all I want. I just wanted some other opinions. Thank you!    — Crystal D. (posted on June 11, 2002)

It is said that too much artificial sweetner can (a.) trigger the appetite (b.) give you diarrhea (c.) for those who have a sugar addiction, trigger the impulse to want sweets.

Caffeine stimulates the appetite and is dehydrating. You would have to add a cup of water intake to match each cup of caffeinated tea. (in my reply, I meant decaf with sweetners)

I don't see anything wrong with it. I drink 1 1/2 to 2 cups of coffee a day and don't seem to have any problems from it.

I LOVE my decaf-tea, I drink it hot throughout the day and I count it as part of my water intake - I've done fine with it.

I live on my sweet tea. I cant handle the splenda or any other artificial sweetner, so I use just a little regular sugar. But I drink 2-3 cups of hot tea every morning and probably 30 ozs of ice tea during the day. Regular water still makes me sick to my stomach and tea is my comfort. My dr says if it works for me and doesn't keep me up all night...GO FOR IT!!!! I don't drink sodas or anything else that is sugared.....
