Question:
What is the cost of some of the Dr.s in Mexico?
I am looking at self pay and can't afford the US. I hear about a Dr. in Spain for 10,000.00. What about some of the ones in Mexico? — Kim V. (posted on May 24, 2002)

is that 10,000 include the Hospital?
My Doctor was only 5,000 but the hospital was 26,000
I personally would not go out of Country to have this surgery, what are
you going to do if you have complications? You will most likely go to a
hospital in the States,
I would check this very carefully
Best of Luck to you

I am self pay and totally understand where you're coming from on this.
There are some really good docs in Mexico who do the RNY. As of this
spring I was in contact with Dr. Herrera seeking more information. For an
open RNY the cost is $12,000 - $15,000. Lap is $15,500 - $18,000. The
variance in the cost of each is in the hospital costs. The average stay on
open is 4 days. And as far as complications, I was told that the most
common complication is wound infection and abdominal wall hernia which
occur in approximately 1/10 of patients. There is another doc I was
personally recommended to who performs the RNY in Mexico. His name is Dr.
Rumbaat, however I don't have any up to date info on his charges. If you
check the library you'll find a couple of people who have actually had the
RNY done down there. One very nice lady DID have complications and still
highly recommends her doc. Good luck in your search.

I just have to vent for a sec. It just really upsets me how surgeons and
hospitals take advantage of self pay patients!!!! Did you know that my
hospital bill was over 44 thousand dollars and their insurance payment was
under 4 thousand. Yet they are willing to make a deal for the self pay
patients for 15-20 thousand!!! What a crock!!! My surgeons fee was appox
5k and was paid less than 2k. It just infuriates me that someone that self
pays has to pay more than double what a large insurance company pays.
