Question:
Are spices okay for an early post op?
Hi, I am still pre-op but I was wondering. Are spices like cinnamin and such okay to use in protien shakes early post op? I think a vanilla shake with some cinnamon and a bit of banana blended in sounds wonderful. Would the spice irritate a newly formed pouch? — Stacey C. (posted on May 2, 2002)

Hi Stacey, I'm one week post-op and on the pureed stage now. I use
"basic" seasonings sometimes like cinammon, nutmeg, italian
seasoning, etc. Also extracts, and the sugar free syrups on vitalady.com.
Best of Luck with everything...

Stacy, almost ALL of the things I cook are VERY seasoned, and always have
used a lot of seasons. I used different spices to give taste to a LOT of
things in the early post-op stage. It's all individualized.. be careful..
Good luck on your journey!

Get this ~ I haven't been able to keep anything down in days...literally
days (I think I may have the flu bug but it hit really hard). I couldn't
even keep down ice chips for a while. So this morning, I know I need some
nourishment and nothing except hot sauce sounded good. I made half of an
egg beaters carton - so one egg and drowned it in Pace Picante Hot Sauce -
well, not drowned, but you know...makes my story good to embellish a little
bit...hahaha. Okay - so I sit down and I take a bite because it really
sounded good and guess what? It's the first thing that has stayed down.
My stomach is saying "why in the HE__ haven't you given me something
like this in the past 4 weeks since surgery?". Trial & error, I
believe. Like my nutritionist with a slight lisp said
"chew/chew/chew" or "thip, thip, thip" :) and all
should be okay when testing new waters. You know what I am having trouble
with? Artificial sweeteners - I don't know why. I need to research it, I
suppose. It's like we're new babies, isn't it? Re-learning how to eat.
