Question:
How many mg of Biotin is recommended for hair loss.
I am taking all the vitamins suggested by my surgeon and added other that he suggest for hair loss. My good friend told me about Biotin and how it has helped her retain her hair through post op. Does anyone know of the mg I should be using for Biotin to help prevent or decrease hair loss? — Karen Renee (posted on January 4, 2002)

My Dr. put me on 800 mcg 3 times a day, 50 mg zinc 2 times a day, and Extra
strength Minoxodil 2 times a day a few weeks preop then told me to start
again 1 wk postop as I already had thining hair preop. I'm only 23days
postop so no noticable changes yet.

Biotin doesnt do squat in keeping your hair. Your friend is giving credit
to a placebo. Nothing prevents that month 5 fallout if your body decides to
shed a few follicles to better utilize protein. We all take that 1000mcg of
Biotin just in case though...lol. I have read just about everything written
on the subject and even several doctors and they all are consistent in the
fact that there is no basis for the praise for Biotin. I lost a lot of hair
during the 5th month... I doubled my protein and took 1000 mcg of Biotin
daily...my friend didnt do either and our hair patterns were identical.
Just as you start taking the 'home remedies' your hair stops falling out no
matter what you did. Same with the special shampoos that cost a fortune...
they dont work either. There is a medical reason due to surgery our hair
falls out... there is no way a shampoo can do anything. I am in month 7 and
I have a head full of one inch sprouts of new hair! Thick and nice as
ever. Even if you lost some... it comes back quickly!!!
