Question:
Any suggestions for cooking for family after surgery? I am alone with a 13 yr old?

For the first 6 weeks post op I am going to be on a very strict mostly licquid diet. I am wondering how others prepared meals for their family? Did they assign this to someone else. My 13 yr old is a picky eater. I don't want to cause more trouble between us. She is not openly supportive about my WLS decision. Although I know she is embarrassed by my size. Please send responses to my email: Johnni2200 @aol.com. Thanks    — Johnni H. (posted on December 6, 2001)

I would actively involve her in the food decisions. As someone else said, let her know that you won't be up to cooking for her for a while and you'll need her to help out. Then goto the store and let her pick out some things she things she likes and is able to prepare, as well as some snack items, like carrots, etc, if she likes those. If she picks out the food herself, she can't complain about it and I also think she'll feel more included.

I was not even a week out and I cooked corned beef, potatoes, and carrots for my husband (he was at work and totally shocked I did that for him.) My suggestion would be just like all the other comments is have your daughter get actively involved with the shopping that way you know exactly what she likes to eat (I have a 17 year old stepdaughter that is a very picky eater.) Once she is involved with her own shopping, you can then teach her how to cook her own foods that way it also takes the burden off of you while you are recovering. Good luck!
