Question:
Can anybody suggest what I can do to stop the nausea?

I am 5 weeks and 4 days post-op, and the very day I got home, I have been nauseated. I can't keep anything down. Certain smell of perfume or food will have me running (no I'm no pregnant). Even when I have nothing on my stomach, I throw up. This is an all day reoccuring thing. I am also experiencing severe Acid Refluc, so that comes up as well. My doctor said this is normal and will pass, but I don't know how much more I can take. I don't go anywhere for fear that I'll upchuck. I'm back at work and I sit at my desk with a bag. I have been living on saltines and water. Has anyone experienced this as severely as I have? Please any suggestions to help would be greatly appreciated.    — c B. (posted on July 13, 2001)

Hi - This coming Tuesday I'll be 7 weeks post-op and yes it does get better. Two weeks ago, I was wondering "Will I EVER stop feeling pukey?!!?" At 6 1/2 weeks, it's there but NOT nearly as strong as it was. I am hoping by week 8 or 9 it will be totally gone!! I know it does help your situation, I just wanted to let you know it does get better with each passing week!! Good Luck, Karan

My dr. told me to take liquid mylanta, I would sip it before eating and it really helped, I don't know if you have tried antacid.

I also was sick for a very long time,I thought it was never going to end! A couple things that seemed to help are sipping on peppermint tea,and something my doctor told me to do it take 1/2 unisom tablet and a b-6 vitamin, together it somehow works,it seemed to help somewhat with me.Hope it helps

GUM. If you are not afraid to chew gum and if you doc say it is ok, you may want to try this remedy. It helped when I had post op nausea. Just make sure not to swallow the gum. It is also good with acid reflux. It causes increased salivation which coats your esophogus and stops the burning sensation. It is a lot cheaper than liquid anacids.
