Question:
Which states have passed legislation requiring WLS to be covered?
I need to know which states have these laws. I can use the information as further ammo in dealing with our insurance coordinator to try to get the exclusion removed from our policy! — Rosie P. (posted on July 9, 2001)

I'd like to know about this as well. I want to work here in Oregon to get
something past.

I'm pretty sure Georgia is one, too. I tried to do a search on legislation
but never could find a complete answer. Perhaps we can make one!

My research last night turned up Georgia and Maryland with definite laws.
Maryland's goes into effect on October 1.

Only Georgia, Indiana, Virginia and Maryland require insurers to cover
surgery for morbid obesity, which is defined as at least 100 pounds
overweight.
Legislation to mandate the coverage is pending in Ohio and Louisiana, and
similar bills are waiting to be introduced next session in South Carolina
and Missouri.
