Question:
UHC insureds...for insurance purposes, is a panni considered abdominoplasty?
UHC has an exclusion for abdominoplasty. I'm looking for people with UHC who have had their panni approved within the last year or so. I'm only 6 months post-op, but I know I'll have to have the surgery within the next 6 to 9 months. I'm already having a problem with heat rashes, etc., and it's not even summer yet!!! I would REALLY appreciate any help you all could give me. Thanks so much!!!!!!! — lezawomack (posted on April 26, 2003)

My understanding is that abdominoplasty is a 'tummy tuck' and
paniahkgaejhga is the removal of the apron. Both very different
procedures. UHC will not pay for any cosmetic surgery, however unless it
is specifically excluded by your plan and the pani is medically necissary
UHC should cover it.

Please submit as panni and pay extra for muscle tightening. I have fought
tooth and nail with UHC and if it would have been submitted as panni the
first time it would have been approved. Now I have to wait til new BCBS
policy kicks in in July to get reconstructive surgery as I have exhausted
all appeals with UHC. Good Luck.
