Question:
Help - I am able to eat ANYTHING-
I am able to eat anything I want- pizza, tacos, candy, soda- none sugarfree. I don't eat a lot of these things, but can eat up to a cup of say canned pears. Had open RNY on 7/24/01 and have lost 53lbs so far, for which I am thrilled. I don't drink enough water- some days I drink none at all. Don't take vitimins- they are about the only thing I put in my mouth that will not stay down. Tried many-many protein drinks- they don't stay down either.I know this is wrong- have TRIED to talk to doctor , he says keep taking your vitimins and drinking your liquids, tried the nutrionist in his office, her response was talk to the doctor, since those avenues don't seem to go anywhere I'm turning to you folks for help. What can I do to keep from making my self ill. When I do throw up- not often- it's clear and very thick. Anybody know what this stuff is. It has no taste or odor. I don't sleep well, I do walk a lot so I guess I'm not doing everything wrong. Please let me know if you have some suggestions.-debi — Deborah M. (posted on September 21, 2001)

Debbie - I am not sure what you are looking for in the way of an answer. I
can eat anything too (3/27/01), and have for a long time. Scrambled eggs
don't work, everything else I have tried is fine. I consider that a GOOD
thing. Try taking different vites - I take 2-3 Flintstones, they could
taste better. If you take non-chewable, try after eating, with a tiny sip
of H2O), I have to stand to take pills now. If you are taking the Trinsicon
Dr. A prescribes, that is strong on the iron, which bothers some perople,
try it with food. Flintstones w/ iron or w/ calcium do taste funny, they
are harder to find but the Flintstones original are better tasting.
WHY are you not drinking water? How can you not drink ANY water, are you
drinking crystal light or something? That is considered water - the
raspberry and peach tea are the best, the others are so-so. Kool-aide made
with splenda or equal, flat diet soda...anything, don't torture your
kidneys. DO yourself a big favor, stay away from soda!! Regardless of WLS,
it is bad for you. Pour over ice and stir to reduce the fizz if you MUST.
I have had maybe 5 protein shakes since surgery - I just only eat high
protein food, I get about 50 g a day. I can't handle them, and I have
tried them all, at great expense. Don't stress, just eat well. I might be
able to eat a can of peaches, its very mushy, so it passes through, I bet
you couldn't eat that amount of turkey! The sugar inthe peaches might get
to me, though.
I haven't vomited since surgery - so I can't help you with the mucus,
though it sounds like maybe saliva? As or feeling like the DR. isn't
helping you, well, it doesn;t seem like you really have too much of a
problem, you NEED fluid. You MUST hydrate your body, WLS or no!
53 lbs in 2 months is amazing, you must be eating better than you think. I
tell people I can eat ANYTHING I want, (minus eggs), I just can't eat much
of it. 1/2 a sandwich, instead of a whole sandwich, a bag of chips, soda,
cookies, fruit, then eat again an hour later. Relax, you will be ok!

Hi, Just because you can eat anything doesn't mean you should. I could
probably down some cheetos and some other junkie crap, but everytime I
think about doing that, I make myself think about what I have gone through,
with surgery. Why would anyone want to put themselves through this type of
invasive surgery to just go home and eat crap. Yes you might have lost 53
lbs, everyone at first loses fast, but I can tell you that if you continue
eating this way, that (weight loss) will soon end. You only have a small
amount of time to use this "tool" and then you will quit losing
and regain. You've got to listen to your doctor. If he gave you a
specific plan and you want this surgery to be a success, you have to follow
what he says, period. Now as for vitamins, if the pill form isn't working
for you, you can get many vitamins, if not all in a powder form, and mix
them in with what you are eating. And as for water, You've got to get that
water in. Make it a point not to drink anything but water for a few weeks.
You'll get so used to it that, it will be something you need. I used to
hate water, but now I can't live without it. Without the proper nutrients
and the water, your looking at kidney, and liver disease, and possibly
death.. You took a very drastic measure to help you with your weight, you
have to be serious about it. WLS isn't something to goof around with, there
are complications that can be involved, and with what you've stated , your
headed down that road. I hope you get on the right track!
