Question:
Where does one get their protein from when on clear liquids?
Just wondering where the protein comes from during the first couple of weeks when on clear liquids? Thanks! — Shelley B. (posted on April 30, 2001)

Hi there. Great question! I was also on clear liquids poat op.
I was told to add 1 scoop of protein powder to the sugar free jello , it is
kinda lumpy, but try
using a blender. Also you can add protein powder to your broth. (I was told
this by a nutritionist.
I am a nurse and felt better when I did this, before this, I was pretty
weak on the clear liquids. hope this
helps.

I'm pre-op but some ideas I have picked up from our supprot group meeting
are Knox Gelatine is tasteless,am packet can be added to any drink, or add
it to sugar free jello, and a packet has 6 grams of protein and no carb's.
Also GNC has a clear liquid protein called Challenge it is cherry
flavored,
I am not sure of the protein grams, I hope this helps good luck.

We get ours from whey proteins mixed with water. They're not
"clear", but they also don't press the staple line. They're
cloudy in appearance, but not in texture. Many will mix up in 4 oz of
water, so they can be consumed reasonably quickly.

www.edietshop.com carries a variety of jello's and broths that are high in
protien, no sugar. Also, www.globalhelp.com carries a protien powder called
ProCel that is odorless and tasteless, you can add it to anything and it
dissolves instantly.

GNC carries a drink called Challenge Liquid Protein - comes in wild cherry
flavor - add a little nutrasweet or splenda and it is yummy - has 6 grams
of protein per tbsp used - and I use about 3 tbsp to make a drink - so 18g
total - try it :)

Okay, at the risk of getting slammed...who said that the liquids were to be
clear? I was told to drink canned protein drinks that nauseated me...and
made my tongue swell up. My alternative was to blend my own with NF or LF
milk, ice, banana, and 2 scoops of protein powder. It takes a morning to
drink it but in a sipper bottle it travels great!
Also, yoplait orange-creme and key lime have some carbs but work great. The
Designer Protein is good in the "french vanilla" flavor. I was
shocked to see wheat and oat bran on some of the others, be watchful of
that. Good Luck Girlie!

I was on clear liquids for 4 weeks. I "lived off my body
reserves" so to speak. I was very afraid to go without protein for
that long. Someone here suggested I use Knox geliten , and crystal lite
"body quenchers" mixed with water both are inexpensive and mix
with water. It's not a lot of protein but it was better than nothing. I had
a hard time drinking water for about 3 months post op so these additives
made the water go down without pain.Hope this is of some help.
