Question:
I'm only 6 days post op, can I even have ice cream?
I was just wondering, Can I have any type of sugar-free ice cream? — Gena B. (posted on March 24, 2001)

I have had the No sugar added Eskimo Pie bars and they are really good. It
only has milk sugars and I think that's about 4 grams. I take maybe 2 or 3
bites at the end of my meal and it is yummy!

Gena, you don't say which surgery you had. My suggestion is to be very
very careful with ice cream until you see how you react to it. I had s/f
ice cream early post op and it caused me some horrendous dumping episodes
if I overdid it. It wasn't from the sugar, it was from the milk. I am now
very lactose intolerant (pretty common after RNY). Even now, 8 months
later I can get sick as a dog if I eat too much ice cream. I can eat a s/f
eskimo pie but anything more than that (say a small bowl of ice cream) and
I'm wishing I were dead and saying "never again". Be careful and
take it slow!

I am 10 days post RNY and am able to eat a few spoonfuls of ice cream and
an occasional Fudge Sicle. I did have a little dumping episode today when I
tried a Wendy's Frosty and paid for it with the shakes.
