Question:
How soon can you drive after a Lap RNY??
I was wondering how soon you are able to drive after a Lap RNY. (under "normal" circumstances) This will help in my planning my post-op care. — Patti S. (posted on August 18, 2000)

My lap RNY was on Tuesday, discharge on Thursday, driving short distances
to run errands on the following Monday, and back to work full-time the
Wednesday after surgery. You would need to be at a point where you were
off all pain medication before driving. Good luck!

I had my lap rny last Monday, July 1, 2002, and was discharged four days
later. Chose not to drive that day, but started driving on Friday. Sort of
regret that, because instead of relaxing and recouperating, I've been busy
running around. It would have been better for me to just relax and stay
put.

I was allowed to drive as soon as I was off the narcotic pain meds. I had
several complications and was cleared to drive about 2 weeks after surgery
but then had to go back on meds for a while and drove about 3 weeks later.
What a feeling of freedom! I hated being dependent on my hubby to drive me
everywhere!
