Question:
This is a little premature, since I still have 38 days till surgery,
but I was wondering if any post-ops have eaten, or tried to eat turkey jerky. I am a vegetarian, who only eats chicken, turkey and fish. It would be nice if I could get my protein while traveling with the turkey jerkey. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks — allendepot1 (posted on March 11, 2000)

I can see how any dehydrated food could be a real problem with some
surgeries especially the VGB. Most surgeries suggest eating foods in their
whole, natural state. You should check with your doctor.

I don't think the jerky in very small amounts would hurt you. You have to
remember that dehydrated foods will swell in you stomach a have the
potential of stretching it. Also the salt content is high, nitrates, and
seasoning is very strong in some variety. I think we should be careful
with the dried fruit also. I don't know about anyone else but I am going
to have this surgery to regain my health. I think of it a an opportunity
to retrain myself to eat smaller and healthier. I am not going to sabatoge
my success in any way. Good Luck!!! Jeanie
