Question:
Has anyone tried the Isopure protein drinks?
They look like clear fruit juices in glass bottles and contain 40 grams of protein. One of the nurses who works with my wife swears by them. I am 1 month post-op and am having a VERY difficult time with the protein drinks. The ones that the nutritionist suggested would choke a camel! These Isopure drinks look like the holy grail to me, but I havent' tried them yet. — Allen B. (posted on July 19, 2005)

I like Isopure drinks more than shakes. You have to be careful though
because some of them are not carb free. Make sure the label says "zero
carbs". Most of all I like the green Apple Melon one, but tastes vary.
Good luck to you!

I loved the Isopure drinks. They are what got me through the liquid
protein period and even now, 2 1/2 years post op I still rely on them from
time to time. If I feel I have eaten too much and want to get my head back
on straight I go to Isopure (zero carb) and they get me through. I do find
that they need to be cold (but not too cold) that helps enhance the flavor
and eliminates the after taste - for me anyway.

I am 3 weeks post and Iwas having a hard time with protein until I tried
Isopure. We got them from GNC we bought all 7 flavors to see which ones I
like ,however drinking them with ice is the only way iI can drink them but
all in all there not bad at all.

I have been drinking the Isopure Dutch Chocolate Protein drink since my lap
rny on January 10, 2005. You can purchase it from GNC. I mix it with iced
water and crushed ice and drink it twice a day. I'm getting a total of 70
grams of protein from the two shakes.
I asked the salesperson about the premixed fruit flavors, and he told me
that they were awful. He said that they were worst than cough syrup and
left a film on his tongue.
Hope this helps!
I would definitely try the Dutch Chocolate Isopure powder.

Hi
I just bought the Isopure premixed fruit drinks and I couldnt finish the
Icy Orange, By the end of the day, I was having dry heaves from the
thought of drinking it. I tried 3 other flavors and couldnt do them at
all. I will be returning them and try something else. I bought some
premixed shake cans from GNC that were 50 grams of protein, 2 gr of sugar
and about 130 calories. Im going to try those today. Everyone's tastes
are different after surgery. My friend loved the Isopure and a nurse drank
it over ice. Me personally couldnt do it. GNC is good that you can return
things if they dont work out, even if you opened it. Good Luck.

Hi there! I haven't tried the Isopure drinks or mixes but I do drink
Nectar protein and absolutely love it! Each scoop gives us 20 grams of
protein and no sugar! You mix it with 8 oz. of water and it mixes
instantly without any clumps. There are quite a few flavors, I have bought
the Very Berry Cherry, Green Apple Ectasy, Fuzzy Navel and Carribean
Cooler. They really taste like fruit juices! I buy mine at
BariatricEating.com. A bit on the pricey side at $24.99 a jug (2.2lbs I
think) but they last a while. The way I think about it is if I like it I
am going to drink it, therefore getting quite a bit of my protein in from
just these drinks, therefore they are priceless to me! Good luck and best
wishes.

I love them! I had the same problem as you where none of the drinks tasted
good to me in the beginning. I finally found the Ispure drinks in the
bottle and I now buy them by the case. My favorites are the apple mellon
and pineapple banana. The GNC store in my area keeps some in the
refrigerator so you could buy one and try it out. Good luck! Teresa

I purchased those as well and asked my Dietian about them and she said they
are the same as drinking water with protein in it. They are not a meal
replacement which is what the Protein shakes are. So you still need a meal
even with the Isopure drinks.

I have tried them, and they are not the best thing in the world, just do
not smell them. To me they smell like cat food. But if you do not smell
them and drink them right out of the bottle it isnt bad. Ohhhhh and make
sure they are ice cold. LOL

I have the same problems as you with the protein drinks, so I did try the
isopure. The fruit punch one, and I could not stand it. It tasted to me
like cough syrup and sugarless Koolaid, if that good. I had to put the rest
down my g tube. I have found a proteing drink that I can tolerate and it
tastes pretty good, the EAS carb control drinks, there 11 oz, 100 calories
and 15 grms protein. Hope this helps.

I have also tried the isopure and they really stink. I couldn't put my
finger on what the taste was, so I let a friend of mine try one and he came
up with the aftertaste. It tastes like soap. I have come up with
something that really is not that bad, as a matter of fact, I don't mind it
at all. I use the EAS Precision Protein that you can get on the internet,
I don't know if you can get it at GNC or not, well, I don't like milk at
all and all the others taste like milk, well, I use the fruit punch flavor
and I mix it with the new Hawaiann punch that is sweetened with splenda and
you can't even tell that you are drinking anything but the Hawaiann punch.
I get the EAS Fruit Punch powder and I get it in 2 lb. tubs. Check their
web site. It isn't cheap, but it is worth it to me. the other things, I
just dreaded taking in the protein. And you can use the liquid of the
Hawaiann punch for your fluid intake. You can even make a slushie of
sorts, by adding ice to it and putting it through the blender and it has
been well mixed. Hope this helps, I know how you feel about hating to
drink the stuff. Debbie

I tried themprior to surgery... my doctor now requires you be on a two week
liqiud diet prior to surgery to help shrink the liver for the procedure. I
thought they were good then but I am now 3 weeks post op and can't drink
very much of them now...they are too-oooo sweet.

The isopure drinks do have a horrible aftertaste. I find if you mix it with
crystal light it makes it more bearable...but its a great source of
protein...good luck!!!

I'm pre-op but when I went for an appointment with my nutritionist she gave
us a sample of the grape. I wasn't sure I would like it but I really
thought it was good with ice. Just my opinion!

I Love the Isopure zero carb drinks. I didn't like any of the
"milky" kind of protein drinks so I tried the isopure, it's
lighter and more like koolade than a shake, shakes were too heavy feeling
for me, my favorite flavors are the alpine punch, grape frost, and the blue
raspberry- they do have a slight after taste, but I was able to get past
that. I drink one bottle a day, half in the morning and half in the
evening, it gives you 40 grms of protein, and my doctor said I can use that
as PART of my water intake. They are a little expensive, but I buy them as
Vitamins Shoppe and they have a rewards type program,, they send you a
coupon for a certain amount, depending on how much you have spent in the
previous year, last coupon I got from them was $100 towards any purchase.
I'm over 2 yrs out. down 126lbs. Good Luck to you :-)

I'am only 21/2 weeks out, I have also tried the Isopure protein drinks.
I've tried them with ice, and diluted in half with water even but they are
so sweet to me. I have made my self drink them but with out fail everytime
I get very sick to my stomach. I know that I need the protein and have been
trying all different shakes still haven't found any that were half way
decent. If you find any that you like please let me know. Take care and
best of luck!!!

I AGREE WITH MOST EVERYONE ELSE, THE BOTTLED DRINKS ARE SO GROSS!! I CAN'T
EVEN SEE THEM NOW WITHOUT GETTING NAUSEOUS! I DRINK THE ISOPURE DUTCH
CHOCOLATE. I JUST MIX TWO SCOOPS WITH 12OZ. OF WATER AND SHAKE IT UP, THEN
STICK IT IN THE FRIDGE TO GET GOOD AND COLD AND DRINK HALF AT BREAKFAST AND
HALF AT LUNCH AND IT'S NOT BAD AT ALL. DON'T TRY TO COMPLICATE IT WITH ICE
OR PUTTING IT IN A BLENDER, THAT'S JUST MORE YOU'LL HAVE TO DRINK. I'VE
ALSO TRIED THE VANILLA, BUT DID'NT LIKE IT EITHER. IF YOU GO TO GNC THEY
WILL LET YOU RETURN IT IF YOU DO NOT LIKE IT. GOOD LUCK!!
