Question:
What will happen? chocate candy 3 weeks out

Not that I am going to try it or anything! Just very curious! I am 3 weeks post-op. What would happen if I happened to grab some chocolate or even sucked on some candy? Is the diet the doctor put me on a DIET? Or is it really for my health and protection of my pouch? Again, don't worry... I am not about to experiment. I so do not want to get sick or anything.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on March 24, 2005)

I would have to tell you to be compliant to your surgeon's program. You did not go through this to become non-compliant! You would more than likely become very, very sick! Dumping is no fun!

Realistically, a small piece of chocolate or sucking on a piece of candy wouldn't cause any harm. However, some people will be more sensitive to sugar then others so you could have an adverse reaction. If, one of these days you really have a craving for candy, try a small piece of one of the sugar-free varieties. The good thing about this surgery is that you can now feel satisfied with just a taste instead of eating the whole package!

You might or might not dump. But that's not the point. The point is to lose wt and maintain your loss. Sugar = regain. You might be off the hook with sweets cravings for 2 yrs, but if you start back early on sugar, you might not even get that lil respite. Sugar makes us fat again. With sugar + grazing you end up with a scar, but not the wt loss. Very scary proposition, is it not?

It's not meant to be a diet. we, of all people know that diets do not work. It's meant to be a way of life, you have to look at it like that, or you might end up doing all the bad things that got us obese in the first place. Please listen to what your dr says. I'd hate to see anyone go through what we go through to have WLS, only to start eating like a "normal" person. WE CANNOT DO THAT! Good luck to you.

Sara, the Diet the doctor put you on is a guide line as you know this is a lifestyle change and not a diet. Now about the chocolate I had a stricture at 3 weeks whenn I was suppose to be eating solid foods I was still drinking soup. I called the doctor and he said i was loosing to fast put on calories any way possible that is when I went to McDonalds and bought me a strawberry shake and drank it. I did not dump so now at 6 months out I still can have sugar really as much as i want but i don't eat a lot of sugar so my suggestion is try it and you will know if you can do chocolate or not. If you can't you will feel like you are going to die and you will wait a while before you try sugar again. Hope this will help
