Question:
Any post-ops taking Wellbutrin SR?
I have just been switched from Prozac to Wellbutrin SR 150mg 1po, BID and when I saw the tablet I got a bit concerned because I was told that after my Roux-n-Y surgery, which is scheduled 4/22, I am allowed to take tablets as long as they are not bigger than an aspirin. I won't be seeing my doctor until 4/7 and I will be checking with him too but I wanted to ask if any of you were able to take this med right after surgery? Thank you for all your help. I am post op 2+ years and have been taking wellbutrin XL. It is a tiny
pill, much smaller than an M&M and even tho I had heard it is less
effective because it is extended release, I have had wonderful results with
it. And I only have to remember 1 time a day! yeah! the absorption may be
less since I have had surgery but I was on the SR preop, went off of it a
while after I had surgery. With in a few months of stopping it , I Knew I
had to be on something. My Dr. prescribed the wellbutrin XL.It took about 3
weeks to kick in as with all antidepressants preop or no op. I have been on
it for another 1 1/2 years and doing really good with it.

Hi Kelly, I take Wellbutrin XL also. I don't have a problem with pills of
any size. It just depends on if I have had anything to eat or not. If I
have eaten it is a bit uncomfortable to handle a large pill. Take care and
good luck to you.

I take Welbutrin, no letters. Just tablets, about aspirin sized, no timed
realease. *I* am the timed release, so take them periodically throughout
the day. Most pills begin to break down in saliva, so they do not even try
to exit the pouch whole. That's "normal". But XR, and timed
release may not give you a predictable result because of our altered
plumbing

Hi Kelly,
My surgeon took me off any time release meds due to malabsorbtion. I
tried switching to the regular Wellbutrin, but I also crush (or sometimes
chew) my pills to aid in faster absorption in the pouch, and these pills
were AWFUL! I then changed to LIQUID Paxil and it made ALL the difference
in the world! I take a tiny cup before bed and VOILA! You might consider
a switch to something that offers liquid or chewable! Best to you!

Pre Op I was on the SR. After WLS my depression really bottomed out. Then I
found out SR is time release. I asked if there was a non time release
version and it is just Welbutrin. So I went from 150 mg Welbutrin SR before
WLS to Webutrin 100 mg after surgery. (This is twice daily).

It is hard to find many medications smaller than a aspirinl I was told
nothing bigger than a M&M plain. I cut all my meds into 4 paices even
regular Tylenol.

The great thing about Wellbutrin is that they are tablets that can be cut
up...albeit, they taste nasty! ugh! I also take Effexor XR along with my
Wellbutrin, and have been wondering how to take those capsules! I guess
I'll have to break them and take the powder inside. Ick!

do not cut up or crush or break open any medication capsule or tablet that
is SR or XL you could be overdosed severely! talk to a pharmacist before
crushing or cutting any medication!
