Question:
Has anyone had luck with BC/BS of Texas paying for plastic surgery?

I just found out that BC/BS of Texas denied my abdomiplasty/hernia repair because it is "cosmetic". I have horrible rashes, bleeding, and general discomfort from the excess skin. Can anyone give me advice on getting approval on an appeal? Thanks!    — Tamara B. (posted on January 21, 2005)

BCBS has been tough on patients in my experience, but your issues sound like a very straightforward case of medical necessity. Be sure your PS is documenting things appropriately and that all supporting papers are sent over. The hernia and TT can and should be fixed in one operation.
