Question:
Does having an incisional hernia help ins. approve TT?
I have an incisional hernia that was repaired (supposedly) in 2001 but has reoccured and is now larger. DO you think this will help insurance to approve a tummy tuck? I am 37 pounds away from goal. — Kristi H. (posted on December 29, 2004)

I don't speak from personal experience, but i've read and was told by my
surgeon, that having a hernia definitely helps with the insurance approval
for a tummy tuck!! I am about 25 lbs from goal, and in definite need of a
tummy tuck! I have actually hoped for a hernia, because I don't think my
insurance will cover the TT. I was denied twice for my WLS, with a BMI of
49, and several comorbidities!! Best of luck, I hope you have success with
your approval!! DeeAnn R

Yes I think it will help. I believe insurance may cover the hospital
portion no problem as long as the hospital bills the hernia repair as the
principle procedure. Not sure about the physician's fee.

If your PS is willing to do both at the same time or is boarded in general
and plastics, then it should help. Any insurance coverage can take a bite
out of the hospital bill, overnight stay, and usually even the surgeon's
fees.
Its worth "shopping" around to find a PS willing to help on this.
