Question:
I heard about Krispy Kreme's low carb donuts on the Today show. Anyone tried them?
I heard about Krispy Kreme's low-carb donut on the Today show this morning. (June 23, 2004.) Has anyone tried them? Do you know the nutritional info? I went to the website, but couldn't find any more info. — raye (posted on June 24, 2004)

It's still a donut.

It's still a donut and it's playing with fire. I have enough temptations
without doing that.

Donuts or any shape or size is still a donut .. I just cant take the risk
of gaining any of the weight I have lost to indulge in my biggest weakness.
Sweet breads! Good luck and god bless.

If you are one of those people who can eat a donut (low carb or not) and
stop with just one or part of one, give it a try. But if you are like I am,
one will lead to two, two will lead to three, and on and on and on and
before you know it, you're craving them all the time and you're gaining
weight. My mantra is stay away from white flour and sugar so I'd avoid it
like the plague..

I don't know the nutritional info but I would bet that there is no protein.
For me this would be a very bad choice regardless of how many carbs are
involved. I am just not a stop at one kind of gal.

This is a real crock!! I've heard that there are absolutely NO GUIDELINES
when calling something "Low-Carb" other than it can't be a
blatetant lie (example - this donut will help you loose weight!). As long
is something is 1 carb lower than it's original counterpart, it can be
called "low carb". GEEEZZZ!!! That means, if an original Krispy
Kreme has 55 carbs, and their new one has 53 carbs - can they say it's
low-carb??!!!
I'm going to stay as far away from them as I possibly can. I've just
learned that those have been and always will be poison to me. Sad but true
- a donut is still just a donut.

I couldn't find anything about this new offering at all on their website
either. If the counts were really good, wouldn't they put them out there,
big and bold? But, they're not even listed in the usual section of
nutritional information. I agree that even if you can get past the
definition of "low carb", there's still almost no nutrition in a
doughnut. And "low carb" does not equal "low calorie",
and no matter how you slice it, calories count.

Geez, people, she asked if anyone tried the low carb donut, not whether you
would have a donut...lighten up. I have not tried it myself, but we only
have 1 Krispy Kreme place in our entire region. They do sell a few
varieties of the Krispy Kreme donuts at our local supermarkets, but not the
low carb. If I saw it, I would try it. But I tend to stay away from most
of the low carb foods, because truthfully they all seem to taste awful.

i agree with what one poster said about there not being any guidelines to
say what is low-carb and what is not. when they say their donut is
low-carb, they mean compared to the regular ones. just be very careful if
you decide to eat "low-carb" snack food. they calories are a
shocker and can start you on a downward spiral if your not careful. best of
luck!

They do not have one out yet, but are in the process of developing it. I
am not a big donut fan, but I didn't realize how bad they were - one Krispy
Kreme has 200 calories. Some varieties are up to 390 each! Wow. They do
have 2 grams of protein, if that helps. Hehe.

(No bashing please!) I eat a REAL KK donut (one) once every
3-4 months, I have not gained but 3 # in 2 1/2 years. Since I can only hold
1 in my pouch it satisfies me for the next 3 months. MY very special treat!
