Question:
Where can someone over 350lbs go to keep track of weightloss?

How would someone over 350lbs keep track of their weight?    — La Tonya B. (posted on January 10, 2004)

You didn't say how much you weighed, but when I started my journey I ended up weighing 396 pounds. My husband went to Kmart and purchased scales which weighed up to 400 pounds. I was really amazed that they carried them. He paid $39.95 for them. I was getting very depressed after WLS because I couldn't go to my PCP and weigh. When he brought these home to me and I got on them and had lost 23 pounds, I was esstatic! Hope this helps. I am now 12 weeks postop and have lost 56 pounds. I know there are people out there who have lost more, but I am so happy to be able to turn over in the bed without too much effort, wipe my bottom, even put on my shoes myself! Little things mean so much to me now. Take care...Love & Laughter. 396/340/???

Check your local hospital. When I started at 430, I used the scales on the hospital loading dock. Also, you might check your local post office and see if they can help. It might be a little embarasing to do the public thing, but you got to do what you got to do.

Hi, Have you considered the hospitals in your area? They often have the scales that read over 350lbs. I wouldn't think that route would be too embarrassing when they know you are on the road to weightloss. Good luck. Open RNY-May 14, 2003 373/283/170

My official scale is the local pet shop. Its a high percision professional digital one good to over 600 pounds. I once checked that by me 313, jen 293 and our dogs all on it at once. Of course you can always use TWO scales, one foot on each and total them up. When getting on you might make it exceed its top capacity but that doesnt appear to harm them.

I don't know if you are willing to spend the money, but I purchased a digital scale online that could hold upwards of 500 lbs. Good idea, considering at the time of my surgery I weighed 475. It's a Siltec, which I found by doing a search under high capacity scales on Google. Not cheap (about $150 if memory serves) but it has a lifetime guarantee, is sleek and (for better or worse) fiendishly, unforgivingly accurate.

I was 400lbs before my surgery. I went to the hospital once a week and asked them to weigh me, until I got below the 350 mark. I recently bought scales at Costco that go to 390lbs. I wish I would have had them before.

Have you checked out your local Wal-Mart and Wal-Mart Supercenters. I am over 500 lbs., and have been using the scales they have in the entrance lobby (where you pick up carts) for a couple of years now. It costs 25 cents to get the info, but at least you are able to get the weight until you weigh in on other scales. Good luck to you.

Hi Tonya, I keep track of my weight using the charts at www.thinnerself.com. You just plug in your numbers and it creates great charts for you for free. I got my scale that could weigh over 400 at Sam's. Good luck to you. Ann in TX 414/292/140

I started at about 360 and my home scale - like most - only weighed up to 330. Until I got under that point, I would go to a GNC once a week and weigh myself there. I found that most GNCs in malls have a scale in the store that will give you a printout of your weight, amount overweight, etc. It seemed the GNCs in strip malls didn't have the scales though; I think they place them near the doors in malls to try to lure people into the store but in the smaller stores in plazas, they don't seem to bother with them. The other neat thing about using the GNC scale is that you can save the slips for a scrapbook of your journey and I liked to go to GNC anyway to check out different protein drinks and bars.
