Question:
Anyone had a revision with no stomach pouch?

When I came out of surgery they told me they had to remove the top part of my stomach because of damage to that area. My esophogus is attached directly to my small intestine. Has anyone else had this? I am having trouble losing any weight - am 9 weeks out - don't seem to have any restrictions or adverse reactions to ANYTHING I eat. Help!    — Kathy H. Did you have a pouch before and THIS was the result of the revision (espogus to the intestines???) IF they put you from the espogus to the intestines YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY FOOD LIMIATIONS. I had a RNY in 11/2000, and because my stoma did not shrink after surgery (happens in about 1% of RNY) the upper GI showed my food was going directly from my espogus in to my itestines. What this means is my pouch is 'non functional' what this mean eating wize is NO food limiations; your espogus will act as a tummy. and IT can hold way more food than a small pouch. Sorry, if your surgeon did this.. Hopefully your revision was done distal; that might promote weight loss; unless you diet and excerise and have SOME intestinal 'malabsorption; you wouldnt loose weight. I lost 150 pounds with my RNY but that was STRICKLY by diet and the malabsorption part of the RNY. What was the damage from Ulcers? Working on the stoma is very dangerous.. when I was originally diagnoised my doctor wouldnt 'touch' it; and when he suggested a revision it was from an RNY to a DS (plumming wise) but he backed out from that; my "third" consult...(challange wise) put the lap band on my original RNY to make a pouch. But now that your surgeon has removed your original pouch, Im not even sure THAT would be an option. good luck ... I know the heartach this can cause. You have to go into a mind set to have WLS and one of the major things is 'giving' up food, HAVING food limitations, then to find out you dont have any like you expect is a hard issue to deal with. one thing I did find out, at least in my case; was with no pouch function, was that I didnt get hungry.. Hopefully you will have this...
