Question:
I have searched the library of questions and answers

I have all the signs of B-12 deficiency, but don't have an appt with the dr for another week. Can I use the sublingual B-12 until then? I seriously can't stay awake, etc. Are the shots better than the sublinguals? Help! I don't think I'll make it another week! I have had one B-12 shot 2 weeks after surgery, but that's it (6 weeks out now). Also, does anyone know the best liquid protein and should we take it if we can't get all the food in? Thanks for your help!!    — Lynne Z. (posted on October 23, 2003)

Yes, you can use sublingual B12. My surgeon suggests that we take it once a week just as a precaution. You might call your surgeon's office to find out how much and how often you should take it.

I use the sublingual B-12 once a week. I have skipped a week or so and you can really tell the difference. I get mine from GNC and its like a little dropper and it tastes pretty good! Give it a try! Couldnt hurt!

You will need b12 for the rest of your life. Shots are the best. My Dr. gave me a script and I inject myself. I am supposed to do it monthly, but I get extremely painful tongue sores when my levels get low. I know this because they are gone within 24 hours of my shot. Fatigue, confusion, memory loss, and mouth sores are common symptoms of B12 deficiency. Any doc will give you a shot if you ask.

You can take the sublinguals evry day if that's what your body needs. You will just pee out the excess. However, I would not do that without the doc's knowledge. The heck with next week's appointment, pick up the phone and call. That's what they are there for, whether they realize it or not. Go by how you feel not what the blood work shows. My surgeon has gone to 2-3 times a week with the sublinguals. When I had surgery it was once a week. For me I take one when I see the pack laying on the counter - which is 1-2 times a week. I don't pay particular attention as to when I take them and how far apart, other than I know it's often enough.
