Question:
DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ACESULFAME K?
I CAN NOT TOLERATE ASPARTAME JUST THE THOUGHT OF IT MAKES ME GAG! SO I BOUGHT A CAN OF CARB SOLUTIONS THAT DOES NOT CONTAIN ASPARTAME OR ANY FORM OF IT AND AS I READ THE INGREDIENTS IT DOES CONTAIN ACESULFAME K, I READ A WARNING POSTED ON ANOTHER WEBSITE REGARDING IT CAUSING HEALTH PROBLEMS, I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS TRIED THIS BRAND AND IF IT TASTES ANYTHING LIKE SWEET N LOW OR EQUAL OR SPLENDA! PLEASE REPLY! I AM NOT GOING TO OPEN THE CAN UNTIL I KNOW FOR SURE! — andrija (posted on October 22, 2003)

Acesulfame K, or Ace-K, is an artificial sweetener made with potassium.
It's the sweetener they use in Pepsi One. They also use it in foreign
countries a lot...when I went to Central America, they had Coca Cola Light,
which was basically Diet Coke, but instead of Nutrasweet (aspartame), they
used Ace-K. I like it better than aspartame. No bitter aftertaste :) It
hasn't been as extensively tested as sucralose and aspartame and saccharin,
but all tests so far have shown that it's an EXCELLENT substitute. Hope
this helps!

Found a reputable webpage full of information and a page of references to
substantiate. Take a look:
http://www.caloriecontrol.org/acesulf.html
I found another less reputable site extolling the horrors of all artificial
sweetners including Splenda, but they did not back their
"claims". It's probably safe to drink your can of Carb Solutions
(that's what I use at home). Apparently this sweetner has been in use
since the 1980s in the US and since the 1960s in Europe (mostly Germany).
It is used in a great many food products so you probably have been eating
Ace-K for quite a while now. But congrats on reading your labels!!!

I also think it is what Suzanne Somers sweetner, Somersweet, is made of.
