Question:
Saw PS about TT before pregnancy - he said that while it's not advised, it won't
cause any major problems with me or the baby. The chances for hernias increase, and are more difficult to fix if it happens. But he has had several patients who have had babies after a TT, and had no complications. Some opted for a "retuck" afterwards, but some left it as is. He said that with a weight gain of 30 pounds or so, my skin might have a little less elasticity than right after the TT, but that I would definitely not have the major redundant skin that I have right now. He also said that the muscles might splay apart again, (that's why we have such a bag of fat hanging from our stomachs right now - our muscles are severely splayed.) though, and if I wanted to "retuck", he would just go back in and sew them together again. Waiting on insurace approval - wish me luck! I know that several people recently have been wondering about this, so I thought I would post here. I'll keep you updated! — raye (posted on October 8, 2003)

Hi Raye: Sounds like you mind is made up, so I wish you luck. Not to be a
dark cloud or anythting, but I personally wouldn't do what you're planning
on doing. You have considered that your skin will now likely stretch and
you'll have additional red stretch marks that might not be able to be
removed in a secondary TT? Also, I think it's going to be even more
difficult to get the second TT approved by insurance, and the doctor who's
going to "retuck" isn't doing that for free. I really don't want
to be harsh about it Raye, just thought I'd point out a few things to
consider in case you haven't thought of them. Good luck with whatever you
decide. Sherry

I just had a TT 2 weeks ago. I have teenage children and a tubal, so a
post-pregnancy was never an issue for me. Yesterday, I was at my PS for
post-op exam, and just happened to mention to him and his nurse about
someone I met recently that is planning a TT, yet has not had children yet.
They both looked at me like I was crazy (hey...don't shoot the messenger)
and told me it was just down rght stupid to have a TT now. While the large
pannis won't return from a pregnancy, muscle damage will, and both
questioned why she wasn't willing to wait until after having children, as
this would be their VERY STRONG advice. All I can say from a personal view
point is that this surgery (TT) has been pure torture for me.....1000 times
worse than my RNY...and I told my surgeon I wouldn't go through this again
even if he threw in a free face lift. Maybe you should look into just
having the pannis removed, and wait for the full TT (with muscle
reconstruction) after you're done having children.
