Question:
Anyone here on Zoloft? Do you know if we absorb all of it?

I take 100mg of zoloft every evening, and I'm not completely sure it's working. My PCP did just increase the dosage from 50mg, so I know I have to wait a few weeks to really be able to tell. My question is this: Can I assume that due to my having a proximal RNY that I'm not absorbing the full 100mg and maybe that's why I'm not getting relief from my depression and anxiety? I did ask both the surgeon and PCP about this and I'm waiting for their answers. Just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this and what did you do? Feel free to email me privately as well. Hi Beth, I was taking Zoloft 100 mg twice a day prior to surgery. At 2 months post op, my doctor changed me to Effexor--the Zoloft just wasn't working any more. I asked him if I was not absorbing it..his answer was "It's a moot point. The fact is, it's not working, so we need to change it." I hope your increased dose works. Hugs, Linda

I have been on Zoloft for the last 6 years. It works well for me. I did not take it for weeks after surgery (just forgot) and I could tell a big difference in my moods. I was on 50mg and increased my dosage 100mg for the last 4 weeks and I can tell a big difference. It will probably take a month or so for it be at its full potency in your blood. If after that it does not work then Zoloft is not the medication for you.

I have been taking Zoloft for a year...My WLS was 7-18-03..I have not noticed any change...I would give it about a month to see what happens. You may need to be changed to a different med! Good luck!!

I am pre-op (Nov.12 surgery date) and was just "upped" to 125 mg. Zoloft. I have been told that it will have to be crushed after surgery and that it really does NOT taste very good, and was advised to try it BEFORE surgery so there won't be any surprises afterwards :-) Hmmm...been on this med for about 2 years. 1st year I was @ 50 mg, 2nd year went to 100 mg., just this week went to 125 mg. I think after awhile these meds in general need to be switched and my overall impression is that it just is not working for me although it did in the past. My doc is a meds whiz-kid, and he says there is a small group of us who gain weight (gee thanks doc) while on Zoloft. Is this a joke or what??? :-) Your, Jo Ann

My surgeon's office told me that Zoloft is still absorbed the same post-op. When I first took it a couple of days after surgery, I felt a little nautious. They said crush it up for a few days and try again. I feel great!

Hi, I've been on Zoloft 100mg for almost 2 years, and I had my surgery 08/19/03. My surgeon kept me on the same dose, she just had me break it in half and take half in the morning and half in the evening. I now take the whole pill in the evening and it seems to be working fine for me. I also take Klonopin, which helps with anxiety and helps me sleep at night; really relieves my restless-leg syndrome. Good Luck!
