Question:
Does anyone who drink protein shakes, find that they curve your hunger to much?

Hi, im 7 months post-op down 75lbs and feeling great. I started back on my regime of drinking protein shakes. I drink the pre-mixed Atkins vanilla, it is great by the way, but anyway i drank it yesterday at 1pm and i had no appetite all day long, and when i was 3 months post-op i drank them and i was still hungry in a couple of hours. I had 1 this morning and i didn't want to eat anything until about 3pm, i had some chicken and then i ate at 8pm and i had chicken. Is it suppose to curb your appetite that bad? I drink my 64oz of water, but now im not eating as i should, because this shake makes me not hungry at all. Please if there is anyone out there with this issue HELP. I need to lose 25lbs and i will be at goal, but i know i need to eat. thanx 260/185/160 — sexysag37 (posted on September 26, 2003)

I am 6.5 months out, down 95 lbs, and I do 4-8 protein shakes a day! I don't use pre-mixed ones tho.
I use Pure Whey Stack, ProPlete Gold, Nectar powders from VitaLady.com. Mix any of 'em with 4 oz of water, shake and drink. I also eat 2-4 times a day.
I wonder how hungry you'd be if you didn't do the protein drink? Maybe this is not the protein, just *you* not being hungry?

RWH that many protein shakes is likely excess calories and considered grazing by many. I suggest you discuss this with your surgeon. It will likely slow your loss and prevent you from getting to goal. Too many calories is still too many calories....

Hi, to answer the question on hunger. Before i started drinking the shakes again, i was eating normal, three meals a day no problem. My eating habits changed since i started the shakes. Im going to see what happens today, this will be my 3rd day on the shakes. Thank u all for responding

I drink 6+ shakes per day, also about 6 oz water + powder. My surgeon requires at least 5. I have a very distal procedure. One of the properties of whey protein IS appetite reduction. Especially of carbs/sugars. You may be going thru a low appetite period right now, regardless. You still need your protein, however. Perhaps you can have it just as you rise and then eat a normal breakfast (small) and so on. I specifically use any extras FOR appetite/volume control. I eat 4 small meals per day. Usually something every 2 hours or so. I often drink a small shake just before a meal to reduce volume & speed. So, they'd be together there. I'm a volume eater, so I could not become a grazer. Even eating a small meal every few hours is "unnatural" to me. LOL!
