Question:
Has anyone used Atkins Advantage post-op ?????
I just picked up a few Atkins Advantage shakes. I'm having a problem getting in my protein, and I don't want the hair loss :-( The shake has 20g of protein and only 1 g of sugar. How many grams of protein should we be taking in each day ??????? This thursday I'll be 5 weeks post-op and as of last week I was down 22 lbs and 33 inches. I'm not having any problem with food I just don't eat enough. Barbara — Barbara F. (posted on September 23, 2003)

I tried the Atkins Advantage. I liked the pre-mixed cans, but the powder
was horrible. Totally different flavor. The pre-mixed are really thick, but
not bad on taste. Served really cold they are tolerable. I would suggest
you try 1 pre-mixed can first. Strawberry was my flavor of choice, next was
chocolate and vanilla was plain nasty.

How much protein you need is determined by your weight. A woman who is
somewhere near normal needs at least 42g of protein a day; the more you
weigh, the more you need. Protein is essential in preserving muscle mass
(not just to help you lose weight). You need to protect your muscles -
remember that your heart is a muscle. I am at goal and I still strive to
get at least 50 g of protein daily and usually get close to 60. My surgeon
told me that 42g is a must but the more the better.

Hi, I use the Atkins shakes about everyday. I really like them and dont
have to worry about mixing anything, just grab and go. Right now my Dr.
wants me to be getting in 50-70 grams of protein a day and Im seven weeks
out. Hope this helps you. Yvonne Lap RYN 8/5/03 244/215/130

I have one of these shakes every morning before I go to work. They boost
my energy and I get 20 grams of protein. My doctor wants me to get at
least 65 grams of protein a day. These shakes make it easy to get that
extra protein. I am four months post op and have lost 82 pounds.

I used the Atkins Advantage shakes but found that the taste was much better
with Isopure Powder (also chocolate flavored) that I blended myself. For
me, I maintain at least 60 grams of protein a day, but try to have a few
days every week where I consume more than 90 grams.

I am 7 weeks post-op and I use the Atkins and the EAS Metroplex, they both
have 20 grams of protein and only acouple of carbs. I do like the EAS best,
it has more choices in flavors. My surgeon wants me to get 70 to 100 gms
of protein a day, so I usually drink two shakes a day or a protein shake
and a 1/2 of a protein bar.

I am 5 weeks post - op amd I really like the Atkins Advantage shakes, they
have a coffee flavored one that is so good! My DR recommends 50 grams of
protein a day. I drink one Atkins shake and then I found a powdered mix
that has 35 grams of protein in it per serving.
