I will be 4 weeks post op in acouple of days, and I just started eating
small amounts of banana, I just have to chew it very well, and watermelon,
and for the apple taste I eat s/f applesauce. The secret is to just chew
as much as you can, I think that when you are released to be off soft
foods, you may be able to try any other fruit at about 6 to 8 weeks, but I
am no expert.

What does your surgeon's post-op diet plan say? For me, it was around 3-4
weeks post-op when I started on small amounts of cantalope, banana and
watermelon. The fruit with skins and seeds are further down the line
(grapes and cherries, strawberries)

I got fresh fruit when I was 9 weeks post-op. One thing I did that helped
in the meantime is take my favorite canned fruit (in it's own juice) and
put it in a blender with ice and make an "icee" out of it. Was
great at the time!

In my case, NEVER!! Just kidding but I'm 13 months out and have found that
I still love fruit. I love it so much I eat it until I get a stomach ache.
I don't dump and therefore can tolerate the natural sugars in fruits.
Fruit is my most favorite food of all, much better than chocolate in my
book. I sadly discovered that I can't buy fruit in any quantity and keep
it in the house. I can eat a fruit salad while at a restaurant for example
or buy 1 peach or 1 small cluster of grapes. If I buy more than that, I'll
eat it ALL! I know this isn't what you are asking but just thought I'd
though out another aspect of fruit eating. I just don't keep it in the
house any more, don't add it to my protein shakes, do have it in single
servings at work or restaurants. It's one of my recovering foodaholic
habits that I've had to change and so far I'm successful. It's recognizing
the problem and then attempting to correct it that's hard!

My dietician told me that fresh fruit can cause trouble for a good 3 months
post-op. I am 5 months post op, and can tolerate most fruits ok now. I
started with canned fruit, then to bananas, apples still give me a belly
ache, but everything else is cool, thank goodness!! Good Luck!
