Question:
I feel so weak and surgery was on May 28th but with complications
I want to know why I feel so weak all the time. I am trying to get all my protein in and water, but I feel so weak. It is so hard to get myself to do anything. I had some complications while in the hospital so I was there for 9 days. I am still basically on boost and water but yesterday I added cottage cheese and yougart. I am hoping that would help. How long will I feel weak? — Toni W. (posted on June 16, 2003)

Hi Toni,
I think what you are feeling is perfectly normal. I had no complications
when I had my surgery and I felt so weak for the first month and a half
that I seriously thought I must be bleeding internally or something. The
first couple of weeks were the worst for me though. I had long hair at the
time and I had trouble braiding my own hair. I just couldn't even hold my
arms up to do it, they would start shaking. I can imagine it's just our
bodies not used to getting so little food. After all, food is fuel. And
when you go from a large plate of food at every meal to just about nothing,
something has to be affected by that. Hang in there, it definately gets
better! It wasn't a good 8-10 weeks before I really started feeling good,
and I even had the lap surgery. Good luck!

Hi Toni, I had Open RNY on 5/14 and I am just getting back to normal. But
before, I wanted to sleep all the time and I barely got dressed on
weekends. It will go away. I know you feel lousy right now. Take it one
day at a time. Good luck.
