Question:
Anyone taking Ultra Mega multivitamin from GNC?

the pills are huge and have a coating. They are not scored. Is is safe to score them? I'm afraid to swallow the whole thing but since they are coated, it can't be good to score them. What do I do? Is there a comparable pill?    — Linda T. (posted on June 11, 2003)

The only multi I personally would take from GNC would be the Solotron, available with or without iron. Solotron is the only GNC multi that is NOT time release, something which won't work for us post-op. The pill size with the Solotron is manageable. Perhaps they will exchange them for you, for some of the Solotron. Basically the Solotron is a higher grade version of Centrum, with extra B vitamins. I took them for awhile but now take a generic Centrum from Vitalady.

I take them and my labs are good at 2 years out. Time released works for me so far. Other meds I take are time released and are fine. I had 5 feet bypassed. But I'm careful to keep track of my blood #'s and you should too. Everyone's different. If your #'s go down from them, then maybe time released doesn't work for you.

I actually purchased the Mega Vits for woemn, took them for 2 weeks, i was feeling GREAT, then I read on this site that we do not absorb time release vitamins, so I returned them to GNC. Then I went to a support groups and asked Dr. Whitgrove at Alvarado about it, he siad that vitamins are absorbed in different places through out our intestinal track, not in our pouches, so time release vits are fin (even though alot of time release meds are not)..so another thing up for controversy!

My Dr. prescribe a pre-natal chewable multi-vitamin called Nutri-Nate. A 3 month supply from Costco costs $30.00. Since it is chewable it has a better absorption rate and extra stuff we post-ops need. I am almost two years post-op and have maintained my 150 lb. loss for a year. Hooray! Good luck to you!

well, my surgeon recommended flintstone's vitamins, however, i hated them, and found that the gnc chewable mega teen's vitamins (2x/day) had at least the same if not higher values as the flintstone's vits... i also add the sublingual b12/folic acid tabs from gnc, and feosol tabs... and chewable calcium.... (at least i don't rattle when i walk...)i'm 7 months out, down 110 lbs, and in good shape, for the most part.
