Question:
Are there any support groups in Queens, New York?
Hi- I am almost 3 months post-op and I live in Seattle, WA. However, I will be visiting family in Queens, NY for a few weeks in June. Are there any support groups that I can attend? — lizinPA (posted on April 25, 2003)

Beth: I don't know about in Queens proper, but there are many support
groups at hospitals in this area (I live in southern Brooklyn but teach in
Queens). I had my lap BPD/DS done at Mt. Sinai and they have various
support groups (one for RNY and one for DS - they are on different nights).
You can get more info from their website at www.surgicallyslim.com. I
know Lennox Hill Hospital (a little further for you to go from Queens
perhaps) also has support groups as does NYU Hospital. There's also a
surgeon who is affiliated with Staten Island University Hospital (I think I
have that right), but I think that would be much further out for you. I'm
not sure if these hospitals have info posted on websites, but they most
likely do. Perhaps a patient from the site could post that info for you so
you have all alternatives when you come to visit! All the best, (Lap

The Lenox Hill support group for bypass patients is the 3rd Thursday of the
month. I am pretty sure. You can call Dr. Roslin's office to ask for sure.
He and Dr. Kurian run the groups. The phone number is:1-212-434-3285.
They run from 6 to 7:30 PM.
