Question:
Has anyone used Met-RX Protein Plus? I am confused about something

I am having the surgery soon and wanted to get all my things together before. I bought Met-RX Protein Plus. After I got it home I noticed that it has: fat 0.5, CARBS 2 gm, sugar 1 gm, protein 23 gm. I think that that is all okay but also on the label it says -Do not use for weight reduction. Is this the wrong stuff?    — Toni W. (posted on April 1, 2003)

Hi! I used Met RX Whey protein supplement after my surgery. You're not using it for weight loss per se after your surgery, you're using to get your protein. I think they put that disclaimer on there because they don't want people basically starving themselves and thinking it's OK because they are taking this protein supplement.

I haven't looked at the nutrition label on the bars in a while but I bet they don't have the vitamins and minerals of the "meal replacement" bars e.g., Ultra Slim Fast, Ensure etc... Because of this they don't want people to use it as a meal replacement and become malnurished... just my speculation. <p>Take Care Be Well Be Happy!

do not use for weight reduction is onmany bars and prtein shakes.it is a fairly complicted issue. - the bars are not low calorie. If you eat a lot of them you will gain weight, as WLS post ops we are not able to eat to that extent most likely unless we regularly grossly overstuff our selves or graze all day long. Also remember years ago the protien shake diets people were dying off from. they did not have an adequate balance of protein, carbs, fats and other nutrients.met rx protein plus bars are good for a supplement, but not to survive on only the bars to loose weight. and a non surgery person might be able to eat several bars rather than 1/2 or 1 bar that fills us right up.

Karen hit the nail on the head in that they dont' want you to elminate healthy foods. BUT as for a choice for US, if it states it is an MRP (meal replacement), then no, it would not be a good choice for us.

MetRx is a pretty good choice - the guy who developed it understands about hi protein / low sugar being the best way to nourish and build muscle while losing weight. But it's expensive - you'd be better off to go to www.vitalady.com and try some samples of chocolate Whey Stack or the awesome new Nectars she has. Shake up your own with water and ice, save a bunch of money, love your protein shakes . . . :o)
