Question:
Can we divide post op questions by surgical types?
I had VBG and even though VBGers may be a minority in this website, it would be helpful to be able to access info from other VBGs only! We have picked the best procedure that we can for us and I feel get little support. Most of the remarks seem to be negative from other surgical types. We should be able to get positive help from our peers so separating into surgical types post op would be extremely helpful. — Alma W. (posted on March 2, 2003)

I haven't seen any animosity towards VBGers. I know that there has been
tension between the DS, LapBand & RNY groups. I thought the VBGers
were like Switzerland - you know, neutral *G*...

There are a lot of other healthy "discussions" that go on here -
like the calcium debate, the protein drink debate, the lap vs open RNY
debate, etc.

I understand where you are coming from with your concerns, Alma, but I
think that most of the questions cut across all 4 major types of gastric
bypass surgeries. So, it probably wouldn't make sense to have different
Q&A's for each surgery type. Maybe people could put [VBG] or [DS] or
[RNY] or [AGB] in their questions if they are to be addressed to only that
subset of AMOS members...JR (open RNY 07/17 -152 pounds).

Alma, are you a member of the Yahoo group for VBGers?
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vbg/) Several VBGers in my surgeon's support
group have mentioned that it's been extremely useful for them. My surgeon
doesn't do all that many VBGs, so these folks sometimes feel like neglected
step-children when the rest of us get to buzzin' about our DS's and RNY's!
The VBGers have said that while they appreciate the general support in our
surgeon's group, it's still very helpful to have a place to go to ask
VBG-specific questions and receive support from people who are familiar
with their particular issues. Good luck & congrats on your recent
surgery!
