Question:
Are there plate or dish warmers that you recommend?
I'm trying to find an electric plate or dish warmer that will keep my food warm for the long time it takes to eat a meal. Does anyone have a recommendation of brand or source for purchase? — Diane M. (posted on February 21, 2003)

I don't know. I'm currently looking for something to keep my coffee cup
warm until I can drink my coffee. I've wasted more coffee as it takes
forever to drink a cup. ;)

Well, this might solve both yours and Daniel's dilemma. Black and Decker
makes a coffee mug that is rather large that sits on a warmer. I have seen
them at Bed, Bath & Beyond and also Home Depot. The warmer is a
perfect size for a small plate (which is what you will be using anyway) and
Daniel, you can use it for your coffee! That's all I know of....Renee

They have a picture on that website. Looks perfect for us.
You might also look at infant supplies in stores as I think I have seen
them there. The ones I have seen are filled with hot water or microwaved
to heat them. It won't be long before you will be able to eat something
like a Lean Cuisine and it will still be warm when you finish. And if you
have a dog, it will be thrilled with the leftovers.
Another suggestion is filling a cloth bag with uncooked rice, flatten it
out, heat it for a minute in the microwave and place it under your plate.
That should keep it warm. This idea came to me from the neck and back
warmers in stores a couple years ago that are made of rice and heated in
the microwave. That should work and be real inexpensive, too.

Just a comment. My daughter is very tiny, and she can't eat or drink much
at one time either. So we bought small plates and cups for her. Now I use
her cups! Why fill a big mug or big plate and worry about it getting cold
or not being able to eat/drink it? I just fill a small one, and it's just
right. :-)

I use one at work. I bought it at Walgreens. It fits a dish about the
diameter of a coffee cup. Works great!!

Go to any store where they sell lots of baby supplies and get a divided
warmer tray. I got mine at Babies-R-Us for $6 or $7. It's not electric,
but it's a divided plate that sits in another bowl-type container, but it's
all one piece. You fill the bottom with boiling water and it keeps
everything warm for quite some time. Good luck to you.

Department stores with a kitchen area carry trivets that are microwaveable.
I have two from prior to surgery that I used as main dish warmers and they
now work nicely as plate warmers.
