Question:
Complications from HBP immediately after surgery???
I tried asking this yesterday and it never showed up, so I will attempt again: Did anybody have any problems or complications or extended hospital stays due to elevated BP? — Kerry R. (posted on February 19, 2003)

Hi....I was on three blood pressure medications until the day of my surgery
(Jan. 10, 2003) and since that day I have not had to take the first
medication for high blood pressure. I think that the anesthesia (sp?)
causes your blood pressure to go lower rather than higher (at least that is
what my Dr. said)....Down 50 lbs...

I did! The day after my surgery my blood pressure started rising and they
had to move me from the med/surg floor to telemetry to be given IV bp meds
and be more closely monitored. Before surgery I was on 4 different bp
meds, one of which I've been on for 10 years and I am not supposed to stop
taking that medication abruptly. When I started missing doses, thats when
it started soaring! My blood pressure got as high as 280/110 and then they
allowed me to start crushing my pills and when that happened, my bp came
down nicely. I did spend an extra day or so in the hospital because of
this though. My surgery was on a Monday and I was released on Friday.
Good luck to you!!
