Question:
Anyone have trouble with Chocolate Protein Drinks?
I'm not a big fan of chocolate drinks to begin with but I am still experimenting with different drinks. I find that chocolate ones give me a "semi-dumping" feeling. Lightheaded, nauseous and headachy. I thought it might be the chocolate but I can eat sf chocolate pudding without any problem. — susanje (posted on February 5, 2003)

I would check the sugar content in the drink you're using. Surprisingly
enough, sugar is high on the list of a lot of protein drinks. It might be
that you're eating "sugar free" puddings and not dumping on
those. Maybe try to switch to a protein drink with less sugar.

Hi, you might want to go over the the Vitalady site. She has a pretty
detailed protein comparison chart. Lists how much protein, carbs, sugars
and even what type of sweetener is used. She has a wide variety of drinks:
chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and "kool-aid" type. I like the
Pro-score 100 in chocolate.<p>

Try Real Meals. It only has 1 gram of sugar and 3 grams of carbs. I know
a lot of people using it and no one has said they experienced dumping from
it. Also, because it has 60 grams of protein you can make mini shakes with
only a couple of ounces at a time and still get a lot of protein. Go to

I could not figure out what the problem was because I was sick everytime i
ate until i cut out all chocolate flavored everything! I do the Real Meals
too and when I switched to vanilla everything went down and stayed down
just fine! Boy I could have eaten chocolate covered poo before surgery!
Everything has changed so much since. Try a different flavor. It totally
worked for me. It is a bummer that we all have to find our own way through
all of this and that the only way to do that sometimes is with a less than
great experience like dumping.

Thanks for the answers. I've tried several chocolate protein drinks
including Real Meals (which I thought was really yucchy) and they all seem
low in sugar. I thought there might be another ingredient that is just in
chocolate protein drinks that are not in vanilla or fruit. I can't seem to
pinpoint it.
