Question:
My surgery was 12-11-02. I had the open gastric bypass, I have had no pain at all.
I have been able to eat small portions of chicken, potatoes, pasta. I have had no vomitting, or the dumping syndrome. I don't let myself feel full, and I am worried there is something wrong. Should I contact my Dr. — kacy G. (posted on December 28, 2002)

I guess everyone is different I am 9 weeks post-op --I have just gotten to
the point where I can eat a tiny bite of chicken and I have not tried
pasta--I was just moved off soft foods at 8 weeks from my Dr. If I tried to
eat chicken it would get stuck as would a lot of other foods--though I have
not dumped I have vomitted a lot---I would say you are lucky also.

I have not vomited once since having this surgery and I don't have a
problem with any foods. I have been full to the point of pain less than
five times very rarely feel full at all. Sometimes I wonder if the doctor
did anything to me. I just had my first dumping experience (I'm nine
months out) on Christmas Eve when I ate too much eggnog.

Hi,
It sounds to me like you are doing great. I am almost 5 months out and I
have only dumped once..My Mom made turkey salad and put sweet pickle relish
in it and I didn't realize that she had. Let me tell you I never want to
repeat that again..I haven't had any problems other than that..Good
luck...open RNY 8/12/02 down 75 lbs

I had surgery the same day as you, and I can eat small bits of just about
anything. I haven't tried any pasta, or hamburger, but I do eat bananas,
applesauce, chicken, salmon, eggs, cheese, ritz crackers, ham,
potatos, sugar free popsicles, no sugar added fudgesicles, cream cheese,
and whatever else that can be chewed into a liquid form. My doctor just
says not to eat spicy foods, and I haven't. The only thing that I've dumped
on, is a protein drink that had a TON of stevia in it. I haven't (and
won't) try regular soda, but I took a few sips of diet soda. It's funny,
because I prefer water now. I wonder sometimes if the doctor did anything
too! But, when I compare the amount I eat now, and the amount I USED to
eat... WOW! Now I eat about 2-3 ounces at a time, as opposed to an entire
plate or two of whatever.
