Question:
I am 8 weeks po open RNY, I am now on regular food, my problem is I don't want to
eat.I am NEVER hungry, and when I try to eat, I take a few bites and get discusted. Nothing tastes good, my desire to eat is not there. I drink allot of water though. My family is freaking out because they are worried that I am not eating enough. I can maybe eat a little, once a day. Whats wrong with me??? ANy suggestions? — Gina D. (posted on July 7, 2002)

There is nothing at all wrong with you. Most of us seem to go through the
exact same thing. Mine lasted for almost three months. Actually it was'nt
until around 6 months that food started tasting good again. And you know
what? That is when my weight loss slowed down. Just eat when you can, and
don't worry about you. We have more than enough fat stored up for the
several months we don't want to eat. Just make sure you don't get
dehydrated and have blood tests to watch your electrolites. That's where I
got in trouble, with my potassium. Enjoy the ride. You never lose faster
than you are right now.

For myself, I treated eating like taking medicine. It was something I had
to do so I did it. Much less than I should, but I made sure I got some
protein in at least three times a day. I knew my life depended on me
taking my medicine. Good luck to you.

I went through the same thing too. However, you MUST force yourself to eat
at least 800 calories a day or you will not lose weight!!! It doesn't
matter what it is you eat, just eat. Things will start to taste better
(unfortunately!!) and your appetite will come back (even more
unfortunately!!!).

I sat down to post this question and you had already asked it! This is me
word for word! I'm 6 weeks out -40lbs. I never want to eat, I feel sooo
full all the time. I don't eat all day, I can't even get in all my water. I
try to eat an ounce of protein (chicken) at night. But how people can drink
a protein drink 2-3 x a day, I will never know? Do you fell sick or does
the food just taste bad? I'm going to call my Dr. tomarrow, I hear theres a
med. that can be given for nausea, I think thats what I need! Good Luck! I
know what your going through! Hopefully it will get better for us both real
soon!

Hey there, I am also exactly 8 weeks out and having the same problems with
food. I feel sick EVERY time I eat and end up puking about once a week
because the food tastes so bad to me. I keep worrying about strictures but
don't have a problem with the food going through me, it's just a pain in
the stomach and then the feeling that I need to puke. I am glad to read
some of the answers below that others have felt this and moved past it. I
really want a Diet Coke as well and am so irritated that I can't have
one...I would love to sit down and eat a whole plate of food again...sigh.
But I don't wan the 51 pounds back!! grin!
