Question:
Did I dump?
I made cream of wheat this morning with 1 1/2 tsps margarine and salt and pepper in it. I ate about 1/4 cup. About 30 min later I felt very shaky, slightly nauseated, and a little dizzy and weak. It lasted about 10 minutes and went away. Was this dumping? I am one week postop. — Billie H. (posted on February 20, 2002)

Sounds like dumping. Perhaps it was too much margarine? I had cream of
wheat when I was a week out, but I prepare it with 1% milk and a package of
splenda. It never bothered me. Everyone is different when it comes to what
makes us dump.

Sounds like it, I dump from too much carbs and cream of wheat (if I eat if
fast) will do it.

Sounds like dumping to me too. I never had an episode to
last only 10 minutes though. I get pale, clammy, nauseated,
weak, my heart pounds and I have to lay down for a while.
Everyone's dumping is different though. Your new stomach
just may not be used to very much yet.

yup u dumped. but i call these short episodes mini dumps because they dont
last long. whatever caused it, there was enuf to bother u but, not enuf to
send u into a full blown dump. maybe next time u can cut the margarine in
half & see what happens. that amount of margarine is way too much fat
for me.

Definately sounds like you dumped :) It may have been the cream of wheat
(I can't tolerate grits anymore), but it may have been the margarine.
Instead of margarine, I use Brummel & Brown's yogurt spread, it has a
wonderful taste, just like butter, but a whole lot better for the bod!

Did you make the cream of wheat with milk? Some people can't tolerate milk
after surgery. I sometimes have problems with it, sometimes not.
