Question:
What did you wear home from the hospital?

I've been told to wear something without a waistband - I think everything I own has one! Did anyone wear PJ's or a nightie out of the hospital? Thanks!    — Crystal M. (posted on February 16, 2002)

I wore pajama bottoms and a big sweat shirt home - I took my jeans to wear home, but my stomach was so swollen that I couldn't button them

I live in Florida so the "cold" was not a problem for me. I wore my nightgown and robe home (it was a 3 hour drive - comfort was the most important thing for me!).

Sweats and a t-shirt. Slip-on shoes. Comfort is most important.

I wore a huge pair of pants with a stretch elastic waist. I pulled them down below my incisions from Lap, and they were fine. But wear a really loose top too - I certainly didn't want to [and couldn't] wear a bra.

I wore a pair of big pajama bottoms and a night shirt with my slippers and robe...even though it was mid-November, my Mom and fiend who picked me up made sure the car was warm and toasty for me. I was very comfortable and happy to be going home.

I wore a nightgown under a robe, and slippers on my feet. You don't need anything else--someone else will be driving. Besides, you're not going to feel like going anywhere after you get home. No need to get dressed. God bless.

I wore my loosest pants and a sweator top (I had worn them to the hospital but only had them on an hour)and my pants ended up being a little snug because of swelling. Make sure you have a pillow to hold against your stomach for bumps.

I was so bloated with water weight that my 'big clothes' I brought didnt fit. I couldnt get my pants up past my hips... so I just put my robe over everything and rode home slightly reclined in the passenger seat. Knowing what I know now, I would have brought a sports bra and some big stretchy elastic undies to hold my belly firm... and just wore my big Lane Bryant silky robe home. I had a lap so I was really blown up.

My surgery is next Thursday and I plan to wear socks and deck shoes (no ties) and a long-sleeved, full length cotton nightgown. Oh, with my coat over it. No pants, no bras, no nothing extra to fuss with. And I have every intention of wearing the same lovely outfit home. I will be decent and my daughters love me anyhow, so why bother? Comfort first! Or at least that is how I look at it... Nina in Maine

My surgery was November 29, 2001. I left the hospital with my gown and robe and shoes. I didn't even try to put on "real clothes" for a week until I had to go back to see my surgeon. I would definitely wear a gown and robe (or coat).

I wore home comfy knit pants with a loose waistband and a t-shirt. Don't worry ... by the time they release you, you are pumped so full of pain meds, you can't feel a thing. LOL

I wore my gown, robe, slippers and marched right in to my regular pharmacy(which is in a HUGE grocery store) and got my pain med filled. My husband was going to go in for me but I wanted to say hi! to the pharmacy folks who know me on a first name basis. I tell you I had not one bit of shame. Everything was covered and like the previous poster, after youv'e walked the halls in a nightie w/hair sticking up on end on top of your head, no makeup and a grimace, the robe and nightgown was really no big deal. Best wishes.

I had surgery last November, not WLS, but abdominal, and I wore a button front dressand flip flops. No hassle i stepped into the dress and slipped on sandles/flops. No undies no bra, although my mother did want me to put something on, no one knew.

I wore sweat pants with a draw string and the were great because I could make them as loose as I wanted. I bought 2 paits and wore them alot after my surgery. You are bloated for a few weeks so they help alot.

I wore my nightgown, robe and slippers! I had a 20 minute ride home and I figured why get all dressed and then have to get all undressed again 1/2 hr later? I was very comfy on the ride home :)
