Question:
Where do I find sugar free yogurt?

I am 2 weeks post-op. The food is overwheleming and I love yogurt but can't find any lower than 10 grams of sugar. I have only lost 7 pounds so I want to cut out the more sugar I can.    — Janet P. (posted on June 25, 2001)

I haven't found any yogurt with less than 10 grams of sugar. Just be sure to get the fat free, 100 cals. My clinic told me that for some reason we CAN tolerate the sugar that is in yogurt. I dump on anything more than 10 grams of sugar, but I do not dump on yogurt as long as it's the fat free, 100 cal. type.

Janet, I've been eating Axelrod fat free yogurt. So far this is the one with the lowest sugar I could find. A 6oz cup has 70 calories,6 grams of protein & 7 grams of suger. So far this has been working for me. No dumping.

The sugar that is in yogart is from fruit. It is called no sugar added. I like the Yoplait, fat free....try the lemon. YUM!

The sugar in yogurt is lactose or milk sugar and should not cause you any problems as long as the amount of sugar is under 12 grams.

I buy low fat plain or vanilla yogurt and add fruit puree. I take a can of peaches in pear juice with no sugar added and puree them in my processor and keep it in a tupperware in the fridge. I did the same with fresh blueberries, strawberries and bananas. Just whip them in the processor and add some nutrasweet. Then dip out some yogurt and add some puree... it is the best.

Nutritionist recommended anything light, like dannon. It's fat free and the sugar from the yogurt is okay! (as long as it's the light, I think it's like 100 calories!)

Do you have a TCBY in your area? They have wonderful sugar free frozen yogurt.

Naturally occurring sugars from dairy, (lactose) and fruit, (fructose) are usually well tolerated. The sugars to avoid are added. Read the labels and check the ingredients. If sugar is listed, especially if it's one of the first couple of words, then avoid that yogart. Sugars to avoid would include, but not be limited to, sugar - high fructose corn syrup - honey. Hope this helps. Good luck, and God Bless.

Hi, I have found Dannon's Light 'n Fit. It tastes really good. It has 0 fat, and 16g sugar. It is a good source of vitamins, only has 120 calories per container, and is sweetened with aspartame. One container lasts me for 3 meals. Good luck.

Trader Joe's has one that is sweetened with fruit juice. Perhaps that will help.
