Question:
who had the surgery the longest
I am considering the surgery and I will like to find out if anyone had this surgery 10 years ago or earlier and how the person is doing physically and medically? Thanks — amah G. (posted on March 19, 2003)

I work w/ a woman who had the old version of the RNY at least 15 years ago.
She doesn't take her iron or vites and is very anemic and ended up in the
hospital w/ internal bleeding last year. They couldn't find the cause.
She recovered though. Other than that she's fine. If she supplemented, I
don't think she'd have any problems! She's had a little regain. She's
about 5'2" and wears a size 14 or so... but she also doesn't watch her
diet. Lunch for her consists of chips and some swedish fish!

Michelle Curran had her surgery 9 years ago and her husband had it a year
later. If you go to www.vitalady.com, you can read her story. The only
long-term effect for her and her husband has been osteoporosis. They were
using Tums as a calcium source and it did not work for them. There was a
post on the message board yesterday from a woman who had the surgery 18
years ago. I don't remember her name, but you should be able to find it by
going back a few pages. I thought there was a place on this site for
long-term post-ops, but I just went to gallery and didn't see it. I'll
look some more and if I find it, I'll post again.

There's another AMOS member whose posts I noticed a few days ago, <A

Weisburgh</A>, who is nine years out. I was really impressed by her
profile, which is here if my HTML didn't work:
