Question:
Shots or Sublingual
I recently got lab work done and all appeared fine with the exception of my b12 levels. My PCP said looks like I would need to learn to give myself shots. I'm not so sure about that one. I've heard of the B12 liquid and the type that you put under your tongue. My question is are these all equally as effective? Are the shots better? I have no signs of anemia, just low b12 levels. — Shona M. (posted on July 23, 2002)

My surgeon and his nutritionist both say that either the 1000 mcg B-12 shot
or the 500 mcg sublingual tablet will be equally effective.

I was taking the sublingual tablets, but switched to the liquid. I couldn't
believe the boost in my energy levels! I just put it under my tongue every
morning. It is a lot faster than the sublinguals which I always tended to
chew before they could dissolve. (How many licks does it take to get to the
center of a Tootsie Pop? Three! =)

I love my shots. I go to the Dr's office once a week right now to get them
and I feel 100% better. More energy etc. I work very close to my Dr's
office and it is convenient for me. Have not tried the other forms.

You might want to start with shots to get your levels up into normal ranges
fast. But then try the other options (not swallow type pills) and get labs
to confirm if they are holding you steady. I don't do liquids or
sublinugals (just personal prefrence) so I do the shots. Much easier for
me. And it is easy. I was scared to DEATH to try it and when I finally
did, it was SOOOOOO nothing.

I have been taking sublingual B-12 with folic acid and recently had
bloodwork done. My B-12 level was greater than 2000, so I am cutting back
on it! Guess it works for me, but then YMMV (your mileage may vary!)
